The Hat

One of the main reasons to wear the hat

is to stop any stray hair on the chef’s head from falling into the dish that is being prepared at that moment. Many chefs wear a head net that covers the entire head and then put on the chef’s hat on top of it. This locks the hair in place and provides no chance of that hair falling into one of the dishes about to be served to a customer.

Many chefs prefer to wear the aprons or waistcoats

as opposed to the more fancy jackets as they could be more comfortable wearing specific chef clothing. Also available are the designer jackets, which are mostly preferred by large chains of hotels and restaurants for that fancy and expensive look.

Chefs who do not wear the regular chef-hats can go for the skull caps

which basically look like regular caps, while ensuring no stray hair finds its way into a dish being prepared for a customer. However, the helpers in the kitchen mostly use these, rather than actual chefs and cooks.

This gives a designer look while ensuring the company’s logo is present somewhere in a corner of the apron or in front of the hat chefs wear. Since there are no specific rules as regards to the color or style of an apron or a chef hat, they are available in a wide range of colors and designs to hype up the dull colors in the kitchen. Keep in mind, we know what it means to be in a restaurant, and see the black hat chef walk by. (don't we)?
